UPDATE: Over 2 years after checking below, my cat's kidney values are still slightly elevated and only indicate early stage kidney disease. Still no cases of litter box or vomiting/diarrhea due to his IBD and still no bone fragments in the food. A few years ago, before switching to restricted ingredient cans instead of this brand's dry canned food, my cat had elevated calcium levels, which the vet suspected meant cancer. He just had a new blood test and his calcium is fine! I still can't "afford" the very high cost of this meal, but I sincerely believe that it was her that saved my boy and gave me many more years with him. It's worth every penny. ------ My 9 year old cat has early stage kidney disease and irritable bowel disease. I've had him since he was a little kitten and have always fed him good quality food, mostly Blue Buffalo dry food and occasionally canned food. day) severe episodes of vomiting and diarrhea. I found a holistic vet who diagnosed him with IBD and recommended that he be put on a limited ingredient diet, stating that she loves the Instinct brand. I bought kibble, as he was used to and preferred, and more rarely canned. This fixed it completely! He hasn't had a seizure since then. About two years ago we learned of early stage kidney disease when he started to urinate outside the litter box (he had never done this before), struggled to walk and other signs such as fatigue. . Little did I know that feeding cats mostly dry food could be so bad for them! I contacted my holistic vet again after my GP told me to put him on a special kidney diet; Instead, she recommended switching to using only canned food with 1 can of water. Since then, there have been no instances of tray-leaving or apparent pain or fatigue. He came back to himself. His kidney tests are better than another vet told me best not to deteriorate. I am so grateful. This meal is expensive and I honestly can't afford it; I would like it to be cheaper, although I'm sure this degrades the quality. But it has helped my cat a lot who is basically my baby in my heart. My other cat who doesn't have these health issues loves it too. They both have beautiful coats and some hairballs. Very bad breath after eating but I can deal with that in healthy kittens. As others have complained, I've never had a problem with bone splinters. There are finely ground bone fragments the size of very small pebbles, but my vet feels they are good for cats and should be a natural part of their diet as they get them from the food they hunt. I had no problems and neither did my cats.
