I got this for my old puppy who is actually about 11 and has severe arthritis to lie in the back of my truck cab that does not get the maximum amount of heat of the car heater. It seems to heat up quickly within minutes when I test it with the back of my hand. There is no choice of temperature but it is equivalent to normal body heat which seems normal for my dog. I use it when I take them for morning walks in the park. This winter the temperature was in the range of 8-25 degrees and it seems quite comfortable. I leave it connected to a 12V power supply and when I want to turn the heater on just press the reset button on the controller. and the heating pad starts heating. You have the option to choose a timer of 30 or 45 minutes. After this time has elapsed, you must press the reset button again. A very minor inconvenience, but it saves your car battery if you forget to turn it off. Also, when the timer expires, your vehicle should be warm enough to stop using it. My only criticism of the fabric is the fluff and fur magnet. I put it in a small pillow case to keep it clean. Otherwise I am very happy with this heater.
