Compared to a more expensive high brightness projector (like the 4500 lumen BenQ for the $1000 MH750) I struggled to get this one. To put it in context, my viewing space is a wall of windows looking out onto the clear, blue, sunny California sky. Below is a photo of my room with *no* lights on just to clarify. I registered 2000 lux (about 200 foot candles) coming in through the windows at 11am and about 600 lux coming straight onto the screen (it's at a 90 degree angle to the windows). At about 60 foot candles, that's about 6 times brighter than a typical living room in the evening with all lights on, and about 25% brighter than a typical office with all lights on. This is my use case. LOTS of ambient light. And in this regard, this device copes with its task perfectly. I particularly like the color balance - it doesn't wash out colors like my other DLPs. It's great for watching sporting events or giving business presentations. Haven't tried it in the dark scene of the movie yet, but I can tell it looks a bit gray on black. I find that perfectly acceptable in exchange for a bright image in my ambient light situation, although I can understand if someone in a totally dark room would prefer DLP or something with better black levels. As for the configuration. Very inexpensive. I am using a VIVO 100 inch 1.1 gain screen available for $79, last reviewed at Revain. And I bought a Bluesky HD1080p 3D HDMI Audio Extractor Splitter so I can separate the audio from the rest of the HDMI signal and route the speakers to the projector. It cost $21. Haven't used the speakers on the projector yet but at 2 watts I reckon they're the same as the others I've looked at - useless. However, listening to the fan is not tiring. I can hear it, but not at the usual TV volume, so don't worry about what I'm seeing. Last photo below. This is a 30 degree angle off center, taken with my phone's camera. Looks a little more washed out in the photo than in real life, is a great picture. It's totally beautiful and satisfying to watch a basketball game in broad daylight in the worst ambient light situation I can imagine other than sitting outside in the sunlight. Considering the size I prefer it to my 65 inch TV and don't feel like I'm missing the colour/clarity I've lost. compared to the LED and LCD TV I have. I shared all of this because I was tormented by this decision and must have read 300 reviews and 40 articles or so before taking the plunge. I haven't tried all of these other options, but I can say that for the price (and even the higher price) I'm thrilled with this setup for my room. Hope this review helps you!
