Diabetic control of my two laboratories!

I needed to buy groceries that wouldn't spike my blood sugar. I had a blind dog due to uncontrolled glucose intake and didn't want Bubby to go blind due to diabetes so I looked for a low glycemic index food and found Dr. Harvey's paradigm. My vet wanted me to put my dogs on the Hill Science diet, but the ingredients were corn and cornmeal and then chicken by-products. I told her that corn is high on the glycemic index and that starch is needed to bind that big chunk, giving another boost of carbs. She wanted to increase my dog's insulin to 27 units twice a day, no way! I told her I would try organic low glycemic index foods and she said she was against it. I'm sure glucose graphs cost $110 every 2 weeks. Pop and multiple vet visits, now dog food and more insulin. So, two dogs are taking Paradigm and their blood sugar levels have dropped significantly. Insulin was low and I'm doing my own glucose charts. I am an RN pursuing a Masters degree and have been practicing for 50 years. That's called common sense. Lila has normal glucose levels and I do a sliding scale for her pre-meal fast with results showing results 1/2 hour after she eats. She drips 17 ml of glucose per insulin unit and Bubbie 10 ml per 1 insulin unit. My goal is to get them back to normal, so there are no complications from diabetes, and to see if their own systems work over time. It is said that when a dog becomes diabetic, it always needs insulin. I hope this will be helpful to those who have a similar problem and can understand how I came to the formula I created. It was consistent documentation that I could cite numbers on. THANK YOU DR. HARVEY FOR YOUR FOOD!
