This is an excellent piece of equipment my deaf father can't live without. This allows everyone in the room to hear the TV at a normal volume and still hear audio at a comfortable volume. Struggling to get this box to work, I spent hours swapping cables while covered. in the dust, climbed around the TV and returned to frustration when Nintendo got stuck on Paperboy's final level. The solution was simple but not obvious. To save others the same frustration (and anger?), make sure you change the audio in your TV settings to standard instead of Dolby using a genuine OEM TV remote. THEN go to your directv settings with the directv remote and change the audio from dolby to standard there. I changed it in the TV settings and didn't realize there was a separate setting for this setting in Directv as well. If both parameters are not set to default, the device will not emit any sound. After replacing it works great.
