I really like this product. I made one out of leftover fabric once, but it started to smell like dog and the inner lining made of leftover fabric made it very heavy. It comes with an extra pillowcase but I would have preferred an inner padded pocket. I went to Joannes and bought some styrofoam beads. Which turned out to be a bit of a project and quite messy. After the beads were attached I covered everything with extra pieces of fabric for stability. In any case, it will never be a solid cube. However, this is a very comfortable footstool and dogs use it to get up onto the couch, not the dog ladder.
