Ribbon wire can be detached to be used for individual jumper wires. I'm still old school and used to stripping and pasting wires directly, but they come in very handy, especially with the variety of colors and being used as a set of say 4 to jump off the board. The only thing I don't like is that they are all tight. So if I jump parallel with tape 4 from the circuit board, then I have to solder the crocodile clip on the other side or even fix it temporarily, this wire is so incredibly thin that stripping and soldering is very difficult. But that's not really their intended use - solid AWG 18/22 is much better for that. Sold and good prototyping boards with easy input/output of wires. I love her.
