There is no ring at the base. The chair is perfect and we LOVE it. The product details explain that this particular chair does not come with a ring as shown in the photos. I don't like it, but the chair is still so great. It's comfortable, looks great and is damn strong. It adjusts up and down as advertised. I recommend this to anyone looking for a chair that can be comfortable for both work and private time. It goes well with our adjustable tables and in the evenings when we don't need an office atmosphere at home.
