Review on ๐Ÿงญ Brunton TruArc7 Compass with Sighting Mirror by Marco Gavi

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Quality designation, not a quality product, not adjustable as described

Let me start by saying that I always have an uncomfortable feeling when I buy something from Revain because it's hard to tell the difference between the reality of 4 or to recognize 5-star reviews from 1-star reviews. I often feel like I'm taking a risk here, not knowing if the products are cheap imitations or if the reviews are from biased consumers who have been paid for positive reviews. Despite some negative reviews, I took the risk of buying this compass. Unfortunately, this product is a piece of junk in my opinion and I had the same issues described in the negative reviews. In particular, I found that the deflection is not adjustable. I consider myself a fairly intelligent person. After reading the instructions many times and spending over 45 minutes adjusting the declination, I gave up. I ended up spending another 30 minutes on the internet and YouTube researching how to adjust the declination for this particular model; I couldn't find exact instructions. Then I took the compass to work and gave it to some co-workers to try and figure it out. These are people who work in a field where critical thinking and intelligence are paramount. We spent a whole shift trying to figure it out and ended up breaking it. After it was disassembled and we had nothing to lose, we found that it was almost impossible to set the declination as described without destroying it. If you are looking for an adjustable declination compass, I would not recommend this particular model. However, I cannot confirm that other Brunton models perform similarly; I have my hunch that the functionality is probably the same. I hope this review helps anyone who is about to buy this particular compass model. I don't want anyone to buy this compass and go camping and get lost because this compass doesn't work as advertised.
