So far this oiler has worked great. I've never seen this type before and it works much better than a regular tray with a lid. First, I took a stick of butter straight out of the fridge and pressed it down with a soup spoon. Later, when I lifted the lid and saw a stick of butter floating in the water, I realized I had to soften it a little before putting it in the water. After this setup, the shard worked fine. The butter stays soft enough to spread and cool enough not to separate. I highly recommend this porridge.
