Review on πŸŽ™οΈ Enhanced Sony ICD-UX71RED Digital Voice Recorder featuring 1GB Flash Memory by Kenneth Cotton

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Decent recording but missing some key features

I bought this mode as an upgrade from my old Panasonic RR-US361 as the ICD-UX71 is a stereo recorder and allows you to record very high quality (great frequency response) . The recorder's sensitivity is good, the recording quality is very good, the noise level is about the same as Panasonic's, but there are two things that would improve it: (1) it doesn't have a sound level meter and (2) it needs a better speaker . It would be nice to have an audio level meter so you can tell if you need to set your device to normal or high sensitivity. The speaker is tiny compared to my Panasonic so it's really hard to hear from the device. Consider using the included stereo headphones if you want to listen to playback, or place the speaker right next to your ear (it may have been designed to be heard that way). In addition, the sound is not only quiet in the speaker, but also in the headphones. Navigation is fine, except I would have preferred an easier way to delete the file. You have to go through the menu system to delete a file, and the menu doesn't let you rewind through the entries to choose what you want to delete. You have to select it first and then delete it. This is fine if you're just deleting one or all files, but if you're selectively deleting multiple files, things get trickier as there's no indicator of which file you're in. Pros: Plug and Play works great on my Windows 7 computer. Easy to move files from the recorder to the computer. Cons: Does not include editing or playback software. My other voice recorder comes with software that allows me to play at different speeds, enhance audio, convert to WAV format, adjust audio level on track, cut and paste, combine audio.
