Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Water Pump Housing and Impeller Repair Kit: Sierra 18-3150 Replacement for Mercury Mercruiser Bravo Engines with One-Piece Engine Mount Sea Water Pumps (Compatible with 46-807151A14, 46-807151A7) by Russell Roberson

You get what you pay for.

I bought this kit to replace the seawater impeller as I do on all my boats every two years. I had about an hour and a half of work on it when my engine suddenly overheated. I turned it off, I was dragged back to the gangway. When I got home, I discovered that my raw water-cooled exhaust manifolds were hot enough to melt all of my exhaust hoses. After removing the pump, I found that the shaft simply rotated in the impeller, preventing water from being drawn in to cool the exhaust. I went and bought an OEM Mercury kit. The impeller housing I bought from Revain seemed to weigh less than the Mercury kit. I put both on the scale and found the Revain body weighed 11 ounces and the Mercury block weighed 13.5 ounces. This would suggest that the fake was less strong and possibly not as high quality, although both units shared the same markings and numbers. Also the charge material in the impeller had a different composition than in the OEM block. The worst part was removing and replacing all of my exhaust hoses as they were welded on. I will always buy an OEM unit from now on. Lesson learned. Don't skimp on water pump impellers. I was lucky I could catch fire or have serious engine damage if I didn't notice the temp sensor right away.
