After reading all the good and bad reviews

After reading all the good and bad reviews I decided to buy and try. I did what someone else said here in their review. FREEZE THE CHALK FIRST. It made a big difference. I sharpened over 200 colored pencils on the first day. I only snapped off the tips of the three and I had to take the blades out to clean them. You need to freeze your pens. Then, slowly but firmly, take the crayon and insert it into the hole. It begins to sharpen and you keep pushing the crayon through the hole until it's fully sharpened. You will know when he reaches that point. Hold onto your pen. If you let it spin, it will likely break and you will need to clean it. If you need to clean blades or empty crayons, you really should do it outside and above the bin. This is going to make a BIG mess. Compared to the small sharpener at the bottom of the pen box, this is much better. Yes, you will have a break and will have to take it apart to clean it. But it's significantly faster and better than any manual pencil sharpener. This is probably not for children as they cannot grip the crayons tightly or use as much force as possible to keep them from breaking. Overall I'm happy and now my daughter can paint again with what looks like new crayons. That's all that matters to me. But it's significantly faster and better than any manual pencil sharpener. This sharpener is a dumpster fire. Avoid like the plague.
