I installed an AEM 30-310 in my 2006 Cobalt SS with a Stage 3 kit from a reputable company. I have an option for a long downpipe with an extra connector (from the same company) so I can add a WB sensor. What I've learned: 1) AEM documentation and tech support makes it clear that the WB sensor installation orientation must be at least 10 degrees above the horizon. or from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. My plug is installed with a horizontal tilt in the negative direction. Not suitable for continuous use (as I found - see below). 2) The RS-232 output only reads the AFR (numerically it's about 14.65 at idle for unleaded petrol with no ethanol). To get lambda you need to divide by 14.65 in your scanner program. So when you configure a sensor in HPtuners, expect a numeric value around 14.xx EVEN when you choose Lambda in HPtuners. RS-232 outputs only the AFR values.3) The description of the RS-232 output in the accompanying manual describes how the numeric output can be lambda when the "display mode" is changed. AEM Technical Support has reported that this is a copy/paste error as the AEM 30-0310 does not work with a pressure gauge. Pins #1 and #4 because I was confused by the RS-232 serial pin graphic in the manual. The manual shows the graphical orientation of the pins when connected to a computer/laptop. I thought it showed the orientation of the harness/pigtail I created (coming from the sensor). Oops. 5) I bought a Sabrent RS-232/USB 2 adapter from Amazon. As a result, it somehow worked without installing additional drivers. It should show up in Device Manager under Ports as Prolific USB to Serial Comm Port. Sabrent Technical Support has reported that Windows 10 no longer supports RS-232 and is considered a deprecated feature for the time being. All that needs to be said is that it's 2021 - and using RS-232 is pretty old fashioned. 6) After about 1 week of use, the BB stopped working. I took it off and it was quite caked with soot. Washed/sprayed with brake cleaner and reinstalled. He went back to work. When I contacted AEM they said it couldn't be dry cleaned and that I was lucky my brake cleaner idea worked. They suggested wiping it down with a cloth. It wouldn't work for me as it was completely clogged with soot. 7) There is a company on Amazon that sells a replacement WB sensor (AEM 30-2004) - and they claim that the sensor needs a warm up period to extend its life. lifetime of the sensor and prevent soot formation. AEM Technical Support did not support this claim and said that a warm-up period is not required. The end result is a quality product. But for me it won't have long-term reliability due to my bad setup (which isn't AEM's fault).
