Review on πŸͺ‘ Wm. Smith & Son 5-pack of Sailmakers' Needles #13-19 by Kristen Reid

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Tradition and quality at the highest level.

These are probably the best sailing needles money can buy. I'm not an expert on sailing needles or sewing/sewing needles in general, far from it. However, I needed sturdy threading needles for my family's emergency kit, so I spent some time on the internet trying to research the subject and β€” invariably β€” "w. Smith & Son sail needles have been recommended as one of the best buys on several related websites by those who make sail for a living. other heavy duty/sailing needles I've previously purchased from Amazon; Manufactured/sold by other manufacturers. This is the difference between day and night, and they stand out greatly. They are forged, have very sharp [triangular] ends, smooth elongated eyes [for thicker yarns], the overall excellent quality seems really there and confirms all the awards and recommendations I've read. I love it when a manufacturer can devote so much pride, quality and tradition to something as seemingly mundane as needles. Super strong needles of excellent quality are of course no small everyday necessities and were highly valued in ancient times along with any household items such as high quality blades/knives, tools etc. but in the modern world the meaning and importance of such items to the average person has increased completely detached; Willy-nilly. These needles are almost a work of art when it comes to simple handy tools. Even if you regularly sew thick fabrics, you will most likely never need to buy needles again, because they are designed to last and stay sharp for decades. You might consider smearing them with some mineral oil after use and I think a leather palm will come in handy when using it in tough materials [leather, sails, heavy fabric sewing].
