My dog is technically medium sized (45lbs) but has a large chest so I ordered a much larger size based on ribs. It's still kind of cozy! I can hardly close the Velcro. She tolerates it, but I find it a little uncomfortable. There are two short elastic loops on the back of the coat that I think should go under her back legs, but I haven't tried it. I think she will protest. I can't figure out what else they could be for. I will say they are well made and she seems to stay warm in them so not a bad investment. Buy it one size larger than the measurements!
