These are definitely shatter proof/resistant (plastic case around an LED). They're spaced nicely and hang down a perfect distance. The color variations are SO nice! I love the lower color temperature -- it's the nice "warm" light I was after. The brightness variations are nice as well -- you can turn them up for entertaining, or turn them down for ambiance. The only complaint is that there needs to be more cable before the lights begin. There is only 2 feet between the first light and the manual on/off button, and then there is only 3 feet between that and the plugin to the outlet. Since the lights are on the ceiling and the outlet is near the floor, This leaves very little flexibility regarding where your lights start, if that makes sense. We had to invest in an additional outdoor extension cord, but there's really nothing short enough (we just needed 3 feet or so) so now we have an extension cord circled up on the porch near the outlet. Otherwise the first light would start halfway up the wall, not even on the ceiling!
