It is not soft and does not pack. The fabric and filling are thick. The 2XL measures 37" back from neckline to hem. Sides are 4 inches shorter. It's very light - 22 ounces on my kitchen scale. But it didn't shrink into a duffel bag and took up half my suitcase. Too bulky for travel. The pockets are lined with smooth, cozy nylon on one side and that ghastly nylon jersey on the other that catches dry hands - uncomfortable and definitely not velvety.I haven't tested the waterproofing but it looks like it will would it repel water. It was great for my 47" butt (my problem) but not much extra room. My height is 5ft 4". The front was almost knee-deep. I liked the fabric not shiny (grey mélange) and looks good, not like a plastic bag.
