Why did I buy stainless steel and not gold? Because I couldn't find a 1 inch that would fit my chain. I'm not sure what you're seeing in the photo, but it's only slightly darker than the 14k gold chain it's attached to. You'll hardly notice the difference and I only needed 1 inch for this particular chain. The large ring at the end is easily removed with cuticle scissors. That's exactly what I did. I can't comment on how well it wears because I only got it today, but I'll come back and edit this review once I've worn it for a while. Very important. I definitely recommend it to everyone
