Two reviews: First, flip mittens are generally quite useful. I can keep my fingers warm and dry when driving in winter, but I can also text when needed. Or get cash from my wallet, or write, or touch the navigation system screen. (Hunters claim that this design is for shooting, I can't speak about that). In a pinch, you can use flip-up mittens to brush snow off your windshield, but they're not the best for the job. Second: these special folding mittens. The insulated lining is as warm as anything you can expect from this style. More importantly, the palm grip is of a high enough quality and hasn't fallen apart. I am 2 months into their first winter and the palm shows no signs of wear. More importantly, the stitching is good! I've had 3 more of these pairs and it's always the same: the seams don't sew on the velcro, then the inner lining, and then half toes die off. In any case, these are well sewn and there is no indication of loose seams at any of these pressure points. This glove is ready to last a few more seasons. Minus: the paint on the leatherette palm is water soluble. After soaking in the melted snow, they stained my white shirt. These gloves are better built than the LLBean version, better than the ones I found at Sears, and better than the no-name pair I bought at a Vermont gift shop.
