Yes, it works BUT the dimmer itself is too far from the bulb - which basically means you can't accidentally dim it/turn it on and off / without having to run the cord to the middle to find the dimmer switch to use (which is behind the bedside table or somewhere)! If it were closer to the bulb area (like all regular light switches are to their light sources) I would rate it much better, but the switch location on this one is poorly designed. I don't understand why they put it closer to the middle of the cord and not closer to the bulb area so you can easily turn it on and off etc! Annoying constant fumbling for the cord (which is way behind the side table) to use it! I wouldn't buy it again.
