These are perfect for tapping into 16ga/landscape cable or most other types of traditional cabling up to 14ga. They allow you to connect to a cable run without cutting or splicing existing cables. No soldering, tape or shrink tubing, just a quick, clean connection. The specs say they accept 14 ga. stranded, but 16 gauge. The landscape wire was the largest double zip cord I could fit in them. Your results may vary depending on the thickness of the insulation. The bottom line is that the maximum outside diameter of the wire must be less than 0.145 inch or less or it will not fit. They also accept smaller wires. Just make sure you stay within the published wire sizes. However, please note that these connectors are NOT lubricated and are not waterproof. If you are making connections that will be exposed to significant moisture (direct burial, outdoor landscaping, marine environments) 3M offers a much better device that comes pre-lubricated and protects the connection much better. 3M Scotchlok Electrical IDC 804 connectors. Revain sells them in packs of 100. They are more expensive but save a lot of time. I needed 120 connectors for my landscape lighting project, some for really wet areas and some for drier places (inside walls etc) so I bought 100 greased connectors for wet areas and a pack of cheaper ones for the lighting. dry areas (internal walls, piping etc.) I filled them with silicone grease anyway before connecting just to be on the safe side. Landscaping equipment suppliers charge EVERY FOUR DOLLARS for their connectors, and most of them are nowhere near as waterproof as IDC 804 connectors, making them a much better and more economical choice if you have a large project. For anyone interested, I also looked at the IDC 804 connectors individually.
