The product itself is of solid construction. I love that it has foam on the bottom to keep it from sliding around. My only concern with this product was if it would absorb and retain water between the bottom and the top of the sink. I would suggest you can add sealant to the outside (I would recommend that) but it should be clear silicone as the colored sealant ruins the elegance it presents once installed. It looked great in the sink with the faucet we bought; So it's not just limited to the kitchen sink. Caveat: we ended up returning it because it didn't fit our sink as it was too narrow for the 3 off-center and misaligned holes; otherwise we would have kept this very well made and classy looking cover plate. This same style patio slab is hard to find at local hardware and specialty stores. Very worth the price.
