Review on πŸ’Ύ High-Performance Oyen Digital Mobius Pro 5C 5-Bay USB-C External Drive Enclosure (3N5-C-M): Efficient Storage Solution for Data Backup and Transfer by Michael Harden

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great set - heating problem!

I've bought several of these caddies that mount your rims outboard and vertically and they all let me down very quickly. In the end I resigned myself to having to spend a little more to get it right than I was hoping for, so I bought it. This is a very high quality construction and *just works*. I have a 54 in four bays, it's quiet and unassuming, always ready and ready to go when I need it. I paid extra and am very glad I did. Highly recommended. Update: I came back to update as there was a big problem with it. Poor airflow, especially with the door closed. I have four drives and leave slot 3/middle empty. The lower pane heats up 5 degrees more than the others when the door is open. With the door closed it is 50 degrees. Both rear fans are on. Airflow requires serious attention from Mobius. Maybe a fan on the front, or at least a mesh front door so at least the door can be closed. My rating has been changed from 5 to 2. Still gets credit for not losing data on the interface unlike some other cheap ones, but I suspect this will significantly reduce the lifespan of the HD. Update 2: I can only apologize to Oyen and go back to 5*. It turns out that the drive I thought was overheating was actually a drive designed to operate at a higher temperature. The Sky Hawk drives feel hotter than my other Exos drives. I'd still prefer a mesh front or preferably fans in the front to force air, but heat isn't an issue with *my* drives. Sorry Oyen! Update 3: No. This unit has a real ventilation issue and most people probably don't even realize it. Other drives operate at temperatures between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius, which is higher than recommended by the manufacturer. This drastically shortens the life of the discs. Now I put a desktop fan in front of it with the door open and the drives dropped to 30-32 degrees Celsius, which is much more reasonable. Sorry Oyen, but the ventilation is terrible. Anyone with this device should run and check SMART diagnostics - you're likely shortening the lifespan of your drives and putting yourself at serious risk of data loss.
