I've been doing yoga for about 7 years now. From time to time we use tennis balls to roll our back or neck. This ball is essentially the same, except it keeps its distance. My yoga teacher said she takes 2 tennis balls and puts them in her sock to keep distance. She had other alternatives but found them much harder than tennis balls and didn't like them. I've used this one and it works great on the base of the head and neck, although it gets more difficult on the back. But with tennis balls, the situation is even worse. With its slightly rubberized surface, it moves like a tennis ball when you push it up or down. They're a little smaller (2.5 inches) in diameter than a tennis ball (2.7 inches) and a little harder, but I didn't find that a problem. A nylon bag protects the rubberized surface from damage.
