Activated charcoal has a surface area of 300-2000 square meters per gram. Because of this, it absorbs odors (and toxins) very well, so it's sometimes ingested by people to combat poisoning. You can just buy activated charcoal (it's sold for aquarium filters) and make your own bags, but that's a bit messy and you need to find a bag that's woven well enough not to leak. I make my own tea bags, fill them with your own tea bags to use in the fridge and other places I just want to throw away. But for cabinets and cars I prefer ready-made options. Keep it in your car and it will remove the musky smell that cars get after being parked for a while. They are very efficient. If you are the right size, they also look good in shoes.
