Quoting the manufacturer's promotional material "Multiple security protections for you and your batteries. The microcontroller controlled fast charger will automatically turn off when the safe charging time is reached, protects the battery from over-discharge, over-voltage and over-current, ensuring the safety of you and your battery. Unfortunately, there is no mention of overheating or overdischarging of ions. It could be a battery fault (brand is in the picture and they will be returned as well) but in my humble opinion the charger should detect high ion discharge or heat build up as a result of the discharge. By the way, this happened within 36 hours of receiving the charger. Glad it was on my desk when I smelled the pungent odor.
