These things save lives, or rather a bike! We used them as a backup, tying our road bike bikes to our hitch bike rack during a long 1,000-mile ride through the Appalachian Mountains. On the way home over many rough roads, one of the clamps holding the bikes to the hitch came loose and the bike bounced off the rails. These straps attached to the wheels and held the bike to the hitch and truck. We were stopped by another motorist who told us that we were towing a bike and thanks to these straps we were able to save a very valuable bike that would have burnt out and could have caused a serious accident. Of course, despite the grinding, the wheels were slightly damaged, but these things seriously deserve maintenance.
