I have three different 5 gallon nano tanks to start with. I bought the Aquatop based on a YouTube video recommendation from people who have planted aquariums. They said there was enough light to grow plants in low to medium light and after spending more on my last light than the aquarium I decided to give it a try. Everything was securely packed and shipped and worked well out of the box. No complaints, but I've found the glass isn't as thick as my Marineland Portrait or Penn-Plax Curved Corner glass tank. Doesn't change the rules of the game because it's still a high quality small aquarium and if you don't have others you'll never blink. The filter is too strong, especially for bettas. If you have a betta and buy it, just go ahead and plan for possible problems. I cut out a piece of styrofoam to cover the drain to help somewhat, then added some driftwood and rock to give her a breather. On the plus side, the internal filter box holds a ton of media (not as much as Marineland, but more than enough). The big disadvantage is the cost of the cartridges. Just replace them with a sponge when you buy this. They are grossly overpriced. The filter ended up being my daughter's 10 gallon and I installed a sponge filter instead. Bright? The reason I bought this set? I dropped it in the water (once literally for 2 seconds) and it stopped working. I ended up replacing it with Nicrew ClassicLED Plus Planted and a dimmer and it's much better. I give this three stars because you get what is advertised. It's terrible? no It is great? no Is it worth it? Absolutely not. I don't regret buying it, but I wouldn't recommend it either.
