Good duvet, good price, warm. I even tried adding some Oxyclean powder to the wash, thought it might neutralize it. Apparently the smell is typical of this type of blankets? OK, I didn't know that. To be honest, I also believe that some people are more sensitive to smells than others. If you or a family member are picky about smells, then that will be a factor, at least until they go away. Maybe you just don't plan on using it for a few weeks. The smell is fading a bit and based on other reviews here I'll try hanging it outside, it's worth a try. And since I've washed it a couple of times, I don't feel justified in sending it back. And I like it different and people say the smell will go away. I'm also considering trying Fabreeze. In case you're wondering, it smells a bit like petroleum products, not gasoline or kerosene, not too bad, but like some kind of oil-based solvent, or maybe a little bit like aerosol sanitary grease (but not WD40). I wonder if it's lanolin, a natural oil that sheep secrete, but I've never sniffed it so I don't know.
