From reading some of the reviews I figured this item was middle of the road and now having put it together I'd say it's that or less. First off, the piping which is a metal but is cheaply painted with plenty of spots where the paint is flaking off, straight out of the box. The wood is indeed real wood but unfortunately once together it's not sturdy. (There was one blemish/scratch on the wood) I think the problem might be in the machining/threading of the metal where some joints will not tighten properly thus needing more threading or more accurate, tighter threading so when put together it would stand sturdy. (I might add assembly was fairly easy) I have put it together and I have stereo components on it but if I had children around I would not feel safe because of the integrity or lack thereof of the unit. In all I think it's overpriced for the efficiency, not so much the materials and in all, overpriced because of craftsmanship. The look is nice and concept cool but it falls short.
