I did a lot of research looking at entry-level cameras. I started with a Nikon D3500 and upgraded to a Pentax K-70. Reasons I did it: excellent low-light quality, weatherproofing, and a swiveling screen. However, the K-70's battery life was terrible. I sent it back but still recommend it as one of the best all-around cameras for beginners. I chose the Sony a7iii, but that's more than twice the price of the K-70. Unfortunately, the K-70 only lasted me a few hours on the trail, where I take all my photos. Also, it's a bit heavy. Considering you'll need to carry 3-4 extra batteries, I then went the other way. However, image quality, performance and overall efficiency cannot be beaten with the K-70! For me, battery life and size/weight really mattered (and I wanted a full frame a7iii).
