Review on HP EliteBook 840 Bluetooth Refurbished by Jon Hill

Good laptop! I would recommend it. There are a few caveats and some problems (although I suspect it's just bad luck), but first the case for it. Well packed. The device was tied tightly with elastic plastic and securely packaged for shipment. Good physical condition. I agree this is a "1" grade for general physical condition and signs of wear. It can be called "gentle" - decent battery life. Despite the age of the platform (2016), I get a good 4 hours of battery life with "normal" use. Word, Excel, Browser, some YouTube. 6th Gen Core i5 platform with USB-C. For this alone it is worth switching to the 6th generation (compared to the 5th and 4th generation). - Smart card reader. This is very helpful to me (and one of the main reasons I chose this line of HP laptops) as my company uses smart cards extensively. Now for the "cons". The screen isn't 1080p, although it's advertised as "FHD." This is your usual blurry low-quality "HD" panel at 1366 x 768 (these laptops come with a variety of options and parts). Not critical, but just so you know, you may not get a true 1080p (meaning "FHD") panel. - Large sticker on the lid. Slightly confusing, there is a sticker on the lid that covers the entire lid. It has the look and texture of "brushed aluminum". I think there might be ugly marks on the lid that the sticker hides. Not a deal breaker, just unusual for me to see. - Damaged SSD. The notebook was delivered with a defective SSD. The restorer used a 256GB Adata SU650 SSD which initially worked, Windows 10 set up and restarted but then went further into chkdsk (checking storage for data integrity) and found smart errors/bad blocks after scanning. I replaced it with a 512GB Western Digital Blue SSD and everything was fine. All in all, at $350, this laptop is good value for money. If the SSD had not been removed and the panel had 1080p instead of Half-HD, that would have been an outstanding value. But that's okay.
