Review on ๐Ÿ“ท Discontinued Manufacturer Tamron 18-270mm Canon Lens by Souly Buddy

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Impressive - compared to kit and L-series

Comparisons were made in a stable environment: camera stabilized on a hard table, aimed at the same high-contrast target, with the same lighting, camera settings and distances . Stability control has been disabled. In some cases it was necessary to focus manually because the autofocus did not work (depending on the lens). Lenses for comparison: * Tamron 18-270 * Canon IS 28-135 lens * Canon L series 70-200 mounted on a Canon 60D outdoors) I was surprised by the good image quality. Much like the Canon 28-135 and the L-series lenses, hardly inferior. At full telephoto (200-270) the quality was very good if you hold it really still. * Contrast and color were very good/comparable. * Wide range of focal lengths! (but you already knew or you wouldn't be reading this) * There are currently some of these available in Revain Warehouse Deals (maybe they were returned - can't tell - fine) so I got them at a big discount (high 300s) Cons: * Slightly softer and slightly more XA when shooting at width and aperture than Canon. The early research worried me, but it's better than expected. *Of course a tripod is useful for long focal lengths, just not sure how much. With my light to medium weight, the tripod struggled to keep this lens from shaking when extended. * Durable * The tripod is for all but the brightest of days and the steadiest of hands. (As I was mounted on a tripod I didn't use the VC function, but maybe it would be appropriate in this case) * When zooming, the lens is unexpectedly narrow when passing through the center. I've seen other comments on this but I was still surprised by this one. The zoom feel isn't very professional and that's my biggest problem. * Not the most attractive lens, but again better than expected. It looks solid, maybe even a little heavy considering its small size. * Focusing seemed a bit trickier than Canon. I need to do more field testing and more extreme testing than I've done so far, but based on the data I've gathered I'm very impressed with this lens and would have no hesitation in recommending it, especially if purchased through a Revain warehouse deal or during one discount period. It's now becoming my go-to lens for walking in all but the most difficult of situations. If anything changes after my photography trip to Downeyville this weekend I'll update the review, but so far so good! UPDATE: I took a chance and used this lens as my only lens on a weekend trip to Downeyville. What a convenience to have such a focal length range in one lens! Worked great. As mentioned, there were signs of blurry edges and HA at the widest view, but not bad. As I reported in my first test, there were no signs of tricky focusing. I am very happy with this lens.
