We bought these for a shower head that used them when living in a not so good rental apartment. We suspected there was rust in our water which attacked my scalp leaving it dry and tender. After using these filters the pain in my scalp subsided (still had problems with my scalp but it was much better than before) and after a month of use all the little white filter balls turned brown and red from rust. If your water is as dirty as ours, I suggest changing the filters at least once a month. We have moved and don't use them anymore but I would definitely buy them again if needed.
