
It decides how the image is rotated and it's very hard, if not impossible, to tell how each application will interpret its results. Images in windows that appear normal will appear distorted on the website when you upload them. Several different photo editing programs did not produce consistent results. I sent a message to the camera's MFG telling me that the rotation information is built into the camera's hardware and CANNOT be disabled or adjusted. "USE" elsewhere will have undefined results.
