Review on Canon EOS 60D: 18MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera Body - Your Next Photography Companion by Amina Aadam ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I definitely recommend buying, I didn't notice any disadvantages.

What can I say, the camera is not bad for the money. Moreover, it can be bought now for 25 thousand. They write that the camera is worse than 40D, 50D only because it is not made of magnesium and the speed has dropped, but this is not so. Yes, the speed has decreased by 1 frame in total, and that from this you will not be able to shoot dynamics. 1 frame is not critical. Regarding magnesium, I agree that the camera does not inspire confidence to the touch, but it depends on what to compare. Compared to the 400D, 450D, 500D and 550D, the 60D will inspire more confidence in terms of build quality. And in general, whether it is magnesium or plastic, the material does not affect the image quality in any way. If we talk about dust and moisture protection 60D, then it is clear that it is not bad. I had to shoot in the rain and in the snow, and oddly enough, nothing happened to him (Although I risked it). And this is despite the fact that it is not made of magnesium alloy. Follow the instructions and nothing will happen. At least if you don't like the 60D, you can buy a 7D or a used 50D, but don't forget that the 7D has an adult color measurement system (processing is complicated), and many beginners, without understanding photo processing in FS, will spit on their heads. They removed the white balance button, and why is it needed if most people already take pictures in RAW format. Photoshop will fix everything.

Pros
  • Like everyone else, it fits well in the hand, convenient controls, a swivel screen (although I rarely use it, but for macro photography or shooting a stationary object from an unusual angle, it can even come in handy). He often helps me out. I think it will come in handy for you, and if you don’t need it, don’t rotate it, that’s all. 18MP is a huge plus. I realized this myself when I first sprinkled frames without losing quality. You can sprinkle with confidence. Detailing is preserved at the same time and it pleases. You will understand this yourself when you frame it incorrectly and start cutting off the excess. The menu is clear, you can see what and where, you do not need to read the instructions once again to find one or another item. Pretty good focusing in Ai-servo, but often misses if the object is moving at a very high speed or there is an obstacle in the way, or when several objects are moving randomly at once. But in most cases, 9 points are enough. I shoot reports myself and I can say that the focus is confident, but not always. And in general, it focuses quite quickly on the central point. The Live View mode is well organized, though slow focus, but accurate, if pointed, then to the point. It is very convenient to change the exposure settings in Live View and see how the exposure changes. The battery charge lasts a very long time. Filmed two dog shows 2022 frames without recharging. Still 10% charge left. Was extremely surprised.
Cons
  • Lockable mode switch. The blocker slows down the entire shooting process. At the beginning, well, it was very difficult to switch from Av to Tv and so on. Now I shoot exclusively in M mode and don’t even worry. Inaccurate exposure metering in automatic modes. The "Sport" mode is a good mode for beginners, but one thing, the pictures in this mode are overexposed, i. E. overexposed. Strongly lifts ISO, even where it is not necessary. In Sports mode, be careful when shooting white subjects on a sunny day. Auto ISO also does not work accurately. Therefore, you need to turn everything with your hands, including your head, and that's the only way. The buffer fills up quickly after long bursts. The camera cannot continue shooting after the buffer is full, and this is sometimes annoying. But I understand that this is not a reportage camera and it is simply stupid to demand a recording speed from it. The solution is to shoot at 10 megapixels or wait for the right moment and then shoot in bursts. Well, or shoot in extreme cases only in Jpeg. What else to write about the cons, if only that the buttons are flat to the touch. At first I pressed and did not understand whether I pressed it or not, but over time I got used to it.

For those for whom weight and dimensions matter, and not the rate of fire, a DSLR is far from the best option.
