Review on JMR Grey 62X80 Wool Blanket by Roberta Foell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Better than expected

Wool blankets have a natural scent and this is no exception. Maybe I was too prepared for the overwhelming and repulsive smell, but it wasn't bad or even uncomfortable for me. However, after washing in cold water on a gentle cycle and drying on a low temperature as indicated on the packaging, the odor is clearly gone. Some of the rug reviews on Revain swear there's a strong smell of oil due to the moth or fireproofing, but that's the natural smell you're smelling. The manufacturer claims that no chemicals have been added to the blanket. Another issue people noticed with cheaper wool blankets was the amount of hair shedding. I used to wash the duvet in my regular top loading household washing machine and dried it in my regular household dryer with two tennis balls to fluff it up. The loss was minimal - about a handful of fiber. (See photos.) I was concerned that the comforter would be too difficult to wash and dry based on some of the other reviews that suggest cleaning strategies, but putting it in the washer and dryer was really handy and not having to take them to the dry cleaner or laundry or hang them to dry. Finally, I was concerned about the stiffness and roughness of the wool blanket, but after washing and drying, the blanket was soft and snuggly warm. I now apply it to the bare skin of the legs and I don't feel any itching. I wasn't sure I was going to get something of good quality for such a price, but I was pleasantly surprised. I wanted to leave this blanket in the car for picnics, outdoor activities, and emergencies, but I loved it so much I now have it on my bed. Not sure how warm this mid-weight comforter will keep you warm when the temperature drops. below zero, but it certainly helps under a sleeping bag, on your knees at an open-air concert, or on your shoulders during a football game. The biggest proof of the quality of this blanket is that my feet are always cold and now I just lie under the fan with the blanket and my feet don't get cold. I haven't tested it for waterproof or fire retardant properties so I'm not sure, but most wool blankets claim to be waterproof and fire retardant up to 50% wool. This blanket is 70% wool so it looks like it will perform as advertised. The only reason I took off a star for durability is because the fabric stretched a few times after washing and seemed a little lighter when torn. up.Comfort is high 4 stars because it's still not heirloom quality plush wool, but I could sleep with it right next to my skin without bothering me. Overall I recommend this duvet and will likely buy more for my kids due to the quality, ease of care and affordable price.
