Review on Rivet Ross Modern Tweed Lift-Top Storage Ottoman Pouf - Stylish And Functional Furniture On Amazon by Kristen Narvaez

Well made, but pattern can be a problem for migraine and epilepsy

What a nicely designed ottoman! It's very sturdy and there was no reeky carpet smell out of the box. As a footstool, it's a little too tall -- about couch height. As a stand-alone seat -- perfect. As a cocktail table, the soft lid can be flipped over over to reveal a wooden tray on the underside of the lid, which can be pushed back down into the ottoman. It's a very functional design, especially for small spaces where bulky furniture needs to multi-task. The cavity is lined in a black felt, and the feet appear to be hard rubber circles, so no danger of scratching a wooden floor.Unfortunately for me, I am prone to migraines, and some repetitive patterns can be uncomfortable for me to view, such as close, high-contrast stripes and herringbones. The patterns start to undulate and appear to move, and I have to look away because I worry it will trigger a migraine. The tweed pattern on this ottoman is small and repetitive, and it unfortunately brings on that uncomfortable feeling, so even though this is an eminently useful and well-designed stool, I don't believe I will be able to keep it. I suspect that people with epilepsy whose seizures are provoked by tight, repetitive visual patterns may also want to avoid this particular pattern.

Pros
  • O. Easy to clean
Cons
  • The pouf may not be suitable for people with thermoregulatory issues
