The flag is not permanently attached but consists of 3 separate parts as shown in the picture. So when you pull the flag you have to do it from below. Otherwise it is what it is and fun to have in the yard. I have two of these, one at each end of the lawn. it looks cool The flagpole enters the center hole but then rests on the ground under the cup, which is not standard. Without a paring knife, I use a long hunting knife to cut and outline the circumference of the cup. It was beautifully done and was done in about 10 minutes. Not 5 stars but for what it is it's ok.
