Review on πŸ’― Motorcraft - High-Performance RT1137 Thermostat for Enhanced Engine Efficiency by Brian Douglas

Not a replacement for Motorcraft Thermostats

After overhauling my '97 Ford Taurus heater system (water pump, overflow tank, timing chain cover gasket, serpentine belt) I accidentally replaced the thermostat with a non-genuine (motorcycle). Although advertised as 192F, the engine never reached proper operating temperature and barely warmed up in winter. After replacing it with an original Motorcraft part, everything was fine again. In hindsight, the old one probably didn't need to be replaced, but I figured since everything else was new, I might as well replace the thermostat. Conclusion: Sometimes non-genuine products are okay, but not always.
