I don't know if you can tell but the pocket on the left was 1 layer of foam and the pocket on the right was 4 layers. several layers of fleece and I had to hang it up to take pictures because it kept falling off. Yes, foam is much more expensive. But you use less and your bag looks a lot more professional. For flexibility reasons, I prefer one-sided. Also, I cut each side of the foam 1/2" for easier sewing.
