Great audio quality for Webex calls

I don't like wearing headphones. And in those days of long hours of meetings, I've been looking for an external microphone that doesn't sound like I'm speaking from a cave. I tried a few other mics and they didn't fit. This one is very good. This microphone is clearly intended for use with phones and cameras as shown in the photo on the box. It is very nicely packaged. Includes microphone with windscreen, mini tripod, phone stand and red handle for attaching the microphone to a tripod. Comes with two cables with 3.5mm plugs. One to connect to the phone and the other to the camera. I had a hard time attaching the red handle to the mount. I was afraid I would break something trying to put it in the mic. But I managed to install it in place without damaging anything. I tested it with a phone first as it was easier. That does not work. Then I realized I was using a camera cable. I switched to a different cable. Still does not work. Then I looked at the labels on the cable. One end is marked with a microphone and the other end is marked with a phone label. I plugged the end of the mic into the mic and everything worked. This must be documented. In the future it will be difficult to tell which end goes where if/when the labels come off. Color coding would be nice. The right angle end enters the microphone. The camera cable has right angles on both ends. And as expected, each ending works regardless of tag. There is also a ring at the end of the microphone. There are two rings at the end of the phone. But the phone wasn't the reason I bought it. I wanted to test it on my laptop (HP Elitebook 840 G5). It has a composite headphone/microphone. I plugged the phone cord into the jack, making sure the end was correct. It did not work. I switched to the camera cable. Vain. I've previously purchased a splitter (which doesn't appear to be allowed to specify a URL). At that time it didn't work. Tried it with a splitter. Still does not work. I downloaded HP Support Assistant and updated the Conexant HD Audio driver. Reboot and bingo. So the microphone with the splitter worked with updated drivers. Spent the day making various calls to Webex and Teams. The sound quality, on the other hand, was very good. I placed the mic about 3 feet away (closer to the laptop due to the length of the cable) and there were no audio issues. I moved it a foot (had to use an extension cord) and the sound got a little better, but that's not necessary. I couldn't turn on the floor fan with the Plantronics headset I used, so people complained about the wind noise. I turned on the fan and when I didn't mention it, people on the other end said they didn't notice. Only when I set it to maximum was there any wind noise. But even then they told me that it wasn't bad. Exactly what I was looking for. Finally a pleasant meeting. 5 stars for that alone. But if Revain allowed half a star, I'd deduct half a star for documentation and not including the splitter. A longer PC cable would also be nice. But I already had a splitter and an extension cord. I tested the mic on my desktop with a dedicated mic jack and it worked great.
