I recently got a new external USB-C SSD for my 2018 Mac mini. When I tried the USB-C2C cable that came with the iPad Pro, the performance was terrible. The drive's tech support said I need a USB 3.1v2 or 3.2 spec cable and they had good luck with that. I bought it straight away and it worked great, you can see above the speed I get with this cable, around 960MB/s. The cable looks well made and looks like it will last a long time, but I've only had it for a few weeks. so I can not tell more. I caution about the resulting 1 foot length; The connectors are quite long and combined with an approximate length of 13 inches from connector end to connector end, the actual cord length is not great. This works great for me and the drive can sit right next to or on top of my minidisk, but be aware you may need a longer length depending on your configuration. That being said I now know that for the best USB speed you need a cable rated for that speed (makes sense), this one does the job!
