Review on ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ Audubon Torpedo Steel Squirrel Baffle Model NATORPEDO: Ultimate Defense Against Squirrel Intrusion! by Larry Sabey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Exceeds my expectations - so far

I've only had this torpedo deflector for a few days. And while squirrels continue to come to us (albeit fewer and fewer), not one of them has attempted to climb a 1/2 inch galvanized pole, but I can tell they did. A few climbed under the feeder and looked up to see where all the seeds were coming from and to gauge their chances of getting there, but no one attempted to climb the perch. This is so unusual because they crawled all over the feed trough when it was attached to the fence hanger. It's so unusual that now that the baffle is up on the new mast, squirrels aren't everywhere. There was just one squirrel on the ground under the feeder this morning and then it went away. Nobody came back! Was it really that easy?!? Using the clip provided (with the beveled end of the clip on top to allow the baffle to swing freely if a squirrel tries to climb on it), the baffle is mounted so its center is 5 feet off the ground. The feeder is hung from one end of the "T" (there is a birdbath at the other end) and the bottom of the feeder is exactly 7 feet off the ground and about 10 inches from the pole. The height of the feeder and the angle from the bar at the bottom of the baffle appear to be sufficient to discourage squirrels from attempting to reach the feeder. I want to upload a photo of my setup, but I only see the option to upload videos, no photos! Conclusion: I am surprisingly impressed! UPDATE: I've had my septum for almost 2 weeks now and so far no squirrels have been able to bypass it. The smaller squirrel climbed onto the pole and into the divider, but quickly turned and came down. The next day, the same squirrel climbed the pole but missed the partition. She stayed by the perch and looked at the feeding station, but the bluebird chased her away. So I wonder what he was thinking and I can't wait to see him try again. These were the only attempts and both failed. It's nice not to see three or four squirrels in the garden robbing the bird feeder at the same time. I still give โญ๏ธ โญ๏ธ โญ๏ธ โญ๏ธ โญ๏ธ!

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Not the best
