Review on Mobile Pixels Monitor Screen Laptop 12.5", Portable, ‎101-1001P01 by Andy Wilson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A twisted story with a happy ending.

This product was completely non-functional. I spent three days troubleshooting and in the end I had no luck. I read about four thousand comments from users on Kickstarter who had the same problems. The developer, Mobile Pixels, helped me a lot and personally showed me all the possible scenarios to make it work, but in the end even they couldn't figure it out. I've tried installing this on three completely different computers to no avail. This review is for the product, not the seller's anger. Woot has introduced many amazing products but this is not one of them. The design and finish of the physical product is amazing but the monitor itself is rubbish. Update: I issued a refund to send it back but missed the UPS pickup. I started playing around with it a little more and still no luck. I lasted a few more days and during that time bought a $79 USB-C multihub and for some reason it worked! The screen is a bit on the yellow part of the color spectrum, but for now it works quite well and is incredibly functional. I still think there's a fundamental power issue, but the hub allowed the USB-C port to draw enough power for it to turn on and transfer data on a single channel. I raised my rating from one star to four because it's a really good device if you can get it to work and the developer offered to pay me for what I spent on the hub. Of course I declined. I had no intention of making money from it. I just wanted this device to work. In today's everyone-for-himself culture, however, this is an outrageous gesture for him. I really appreciated the responsibility this guy took with his product by trying to help me and then backing it up by saying he lost some money just to make me happy. A truly unique businessman. I tested this on three computers: Microsoft Surface Book 2, Wacom Mobile Studio Pro, and HP Omen.
