Slow but running - internal hard drives

I only bought this to clean up a batch of drives. It's incredibly slow. About 16 hours to erase a 4TB drive and that's just one pass. It would be faster to implement a native SATA secure erase function rather than a manual one-pass overwrite. Although incredibly slow, it works. A strange anomaly is that after the erase process is complete, you have to turn off the device before you can erase another set of drives. If you press the erase button on a new set of discs without turning them off first, the discs will spin up but the 4 lights will keep flashing after the previous erase. A small design flaw. Note that the erase function failed on two SATA 1 drives. I don't see this as a big deal since SATA 1 is so obsolete that you shouldn't be reusing those drives anyway, but I'm mentioning it just in case Consider this purchase option to erase a stack of SATA 1 (1.5 Gb/s) drives. All of my SATA 2 (3Gb/s) and SATA 3 (6Gb/s) drives still erase with no issues.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • No instructions
