Very warm socks, thicker material - these are especially comfortable in winter boots. I got these primarily for my husband to wear, but on a colder day I wore a pair all day with low boots when outside and running errands - around the house too - and they kept my feet, and especially my ankles, very warm. At first I thought they'd be too thick for my boots but actually that wasn't an issue. These would be especially good socks for cooler weather hiking, camping, outdoors (even indoors in colder weather) - anywhere the feet need some extra warmth.SIZING: These run true to size by their size chart. I wear 9.5 in women's gym shoes - these socks in size L had extra room in the length on me, but the socks settled in and that wasn't a problem. Even so I would definitely be a size Med in these. There's some stretch to them - my husband wears size 13 shoes and they fit him just fine even though the size chart for L ends at mens' size 12 (size XL was't offered).
