Review on NiteRider Commuter Helmet Mount Cordless by David Ross

Revainrating 4 out of 5

nice way to mount a flashlight

Bought to install MiNewt 150 on my helmet and so far it works fine. It's some kind of mount with tubular rubber under the plastic foot/support so it doesn't slide on the helmet. I've had it for about 2-3 weeks now so can't comment on durability but it has the same quick release mount as the handlebar mount that came with the 150. It tilts back and forth but not side to side. Side. -Side. I use it with a Bell Road helmet and have had no trouble getting it right in the middle - as long as you have symmetrical vents in your helmet you should be fine. a look at what's (well) ahead of you, and when you've got it on your helmet you can pan and sweep the road for sharps and potholes. I also use it to warn drivers when they're approaching an intersection - a quick glance left and right gives a flash in their direction to get attention. Mounting on a helmet also appears to offer a longer "range" of light. Another bonus is that drivers of large vehicles (monster trucks, etc.) are more likely to see you since the light is well above the steering wheel. small flashing lights on the handlebars to complement the helmet mount (if you're not looking straight ahead, your flashlight won't see either). The mount is also mostly plastic - not sure what that means for durability - you might want to remove it unless you're driving at night/in the dark to minimize UV damage from the sun etc. The mount lets the light sit fairly high on your head so it doesn't improve your aerodynamics or give you style points (like the profile of a Roman centurion helmet) and of course it makes the helmet a bit heavier. All in all I recommend it. , especially for those who drive often or for long periods in the dark.

Pros
  • handy thing
Cons
