Good shoes but the laces are broken

Received as a gift to my son. Very good shoes but the laces broke after 4 months. Unfortunately, the warranty process is tedious and you have to pay for shipping to send it in for repairs, which can take weeks. Very inconvenient when we have two hikes within that time frame.
